小輝早前在 fb 貼了一個關於 science的 quote. 出處可能是這裡 How The Mainstream Media Is Failing Us With Its Nuclear Hysteria, TechCrunch, Jon Evans (Mar 24, 2011)
"... science, unlike the arts, is ultimately about the provability and falsifiability, not interpretation and opinion"
今天看到一個 Emile Durkheim的quote,也是關於science......哈哈,有趣有趣
"Today it is generally sufficient that (truths or ideas) bear the stamp of science to receive a sort of privileged credit, because we have faith in science. But this faith does not differ essentially from religious faith. In the last resort, the value which we attribute to science depends upon the idea which we collectively form of its nature and role in life; that is as much as to say that it expresses a state of public opinion. In all social life, in fact, science rests upon opinion." ( from The Elementary Forms of the Religious Life)

yes, you are correct. my quotation is abstracted from that articule. it is a very comprehensive article of science.
however, i dont agree with the conclusion of the quotation. it should be written in "in social life, the belief of science rest upon opinion. the author is talking about the belief instead of the research contest of science.

I know Durkheim is talking about the faith. thats why I think he should the belief of science in the conclusion lor
in hk the belief of science creates so many so-called scientific belief. in order to make your statement looks scentific, ppl are making so many stupid uncontestable data/proofs. Why cant ppl simply accept there is the truth outside science?
